With enthusiasm and excitement in the hearts of all Marians and as the school became a rainbow of feasts, St. Mary’s College of Meycauayan celebrated its 99th Foundation Anniversary last February 9-14, 2015 with the theme “Meeting the Challenge of Excellence…Going Beyond Limits.”
The long-awaited Foundation Week started with a Eucharistic celebration at St. Francis of Assisi Parish presided by Bishop Emeritus Deogracias Iniguez who graduated Batch 1954 and other alumni priests & RVM sisters and the star sections from grade school to high school attended the said mass.
After the mass, as one of the highlights of the soon to come Centennial Celebration wherein all the witnesses to the transformation of SMCM will come together to continue the legacy the school has made impact, the formal launching of the Sansiglo book elaborating Marian tales of gratitude and success written by Ms. Rheena Soquila happened.
Students witnessed some of the people who shared their experiences, stories and humble beginnings in the said book and thus, instilled inspiration and hope to every Marian to value how vital it is to be a Marian in every inch.
The next day, candidates for the Little Prince & Princess, Little Mr. & Ms. and Mr. and Ms. SMCM had a float parade then had a Talent showcase at the Multi – Purpose Hall wherein the candidates battled it out and gave everything they got with their God – given talents as one of the components of the competition. The coronation occurred the following day wherein the contestants showed their uniqueness, grace and intelligence.
The winners will be competing against contestants from different private schools here in Meycauayan for the MeyCiPRISA next school year.
The morning of the third day of the Foundation Week was not only a good one but a fit and healthy morning as every Marian, regardless of body mass index, participated in the Fun Run and in the unexpected Zumba Session wherein students and teachers joined forces to loosen some fats and calories for a healthy body.
As proofs to the different talents God has poured on us, the Student’s Variety Show and Teacher’s Presentation dubbed as Hits Showtime were exemplified through singing, dancing & acting.
The Foundation Week would not be complete as the SILAY club members performed “Alina” while the grade school level presented a puppet show.
Also, because of the objective of reviving the great works of the past and promoting the world of literature, the English Area headed by Mrs. Imelda Dela Cena along with the English teachers launched the Silhouette: A Human Exhibit that featured different characters from literary works and famous people that made an impact to the people portrayed by some students from grade school to high school.
But of course, as one of the prime event of the celebration, the last day of the flourished Foundation week highlighted the field demonstration with the concept of rhythmic gymnastics.
The winner for Category 1 was the Grade 3 Level, for Category 2 was the College Group B, for Category 3 was the Grade 4 Level and the Fourth Year Level emerged as the champion for Category 4.
Truly, SMCM is ready to take a new step for the much-awaited Centennial Celebration next academic year. Happy Birthday, SMCM!
